Summer Special Exhibition From Ieyasu to Yoshinao: The Transition to a Powerful Pre-Modern State
~
Tokugawa Ieyasu lived through the dramatic Warring States period at end of the 16th and beginning of the 17th century and unified the whole of Japan under his rule. Tokugawa Yoshinao was Ieyasu's ninth son, who was put in charge of governing Owari Province in peaceful times. Although they were father and son, they lived in strikingly different times. Having inherited a vast fortune and extensive library from Ieyasu, Yoshinao solidified the foundation of the Owari domain and led Nagoya to prosperity.
Focusing on the governing policy that was handed down from Ieyasu to Yoshinao, this exhibition traces the respective lives and political beliefs of these two figures as well as Yoshinao's feelings toward his father through various family heirlooms and historical materials.
